Photographers: You’re Now Officially Free To Shoot... →
Thanks to a recent settlement with the NYCLU, however, all federal personel should be aware and adhere to a clarified set of rules and, in the end, allow photogs to shoot away. … Officers should not seize the camera or its contents, and must be cautious not to give such ‘orders’ to a photographer to erase the contents of a camera, as this constitutes a seizure or detention. Some police...

Google not happy with Android Market purchase... →
Having a Market full of apps is a very good thing for owners of Android handsets, but those owners buying few premium apps is a bad thing for developers who keep that Market full. The key to making the non-free apps a success in the Android Market is we need to see a few killer premium apps that are exclusive to Android.  They did this with Google Sky Map, Google GPS, and their native Gmail...

How Steve Jobs gets things done →
For starters, they hear a tale from one Apple director about the special board meeting held after Jobs accepted the post. Jobs walked up to the wall of the conference room where Apple’s roughly two dozen current products were on display and began taking them down, one at a time. When he was done, only four were left. Those were the ones, he said, that would give Apple new life by...

Oops: Android contains directly copied Java code,... →
Florian Mueller has been killing it these past few months with his analysis of various tech patent suits on his FOSSpatents blog, and today he’s unearthed a pretty major bombshell: at least 43 Android source files that appear to have been directly copied from Java. That’s a big deal, seeing as Oracle is currently suing Google for patent and copyright infringement in Android ...

Flash game ripped-off and put on the iTunes App... →
Featured on iTunes ”New & Noteworthy” section, The Blocks Cometh for iOS is the exact same game as Halfbot’s Flash title, taking the name, the concept, and even the art assets with only a cosmetic change made to the player character (confirmed by Halfbot to have been stolen from the game League of Evil). It’s hit the “top 200” chart in spite of its status...

The doctors mentioned Mrs. Giffords scrolled through an iPad and picked out a stuff animal, a sign of higher cognitive thinking. I’m happy she is seeing progress.  Get well Mrs. Giffords.

This is a huge step in the US with making payments using phone instead of a plastic card or cash.  Starbucks will be the only place that most Americans (including me) will use our iPhone to pay for things.  For the time being at least.

And a few days ago, my mom showed me an app that she liked.  Yesterday, my father-in-law bought Angry Birds for his Mac from the Mac App Store.   “Have you seen that one app?” is the new “Have you heard that one song?”.   Apps are a new medium and they’re benefitting from the network effect.
